I don't condone name calling. And I have on several occasions given my opinion as to how the anonymity of the Internet creates a sense of it being ok to say things that one wouldn't say face to face. And as an adult, I am hyper aware of the age range of the players I am currently choosing to hang with by playing on MineRealm. I use the backspace key A LOT to either not hit enter on what might be inappropriate humor for chat or what might come across as too harsh when I'm annoyed about something. Like the rest of us, I'm not perfect and I know sometimes I let fly with things that would have been better left out of chat.
Having said that, river can be abbrasive. Case in point the OP for his garage sale thread. I saw him in chat getting confrontational over prices her was offering goods for. It wasn't very long after that the garage sale post went on the forums. Having witnessed the in chat exchange or not, reading "If you dont like the price for an item, i don't care. Dont post anything about prices being to high! Its annoying." to me was off putting. I immediately disregarded his sale. I don't want to do business with someone who has that kind of attitude, especially over a game.
The "retard" comment in chat resulted from a simliar exchange. river woudn't stop poking the player in question, continually calling him mean and a downer and just not letting the whole thing drop. They don't like each other. Why the need to drag it on and on. In the end the retard comment was apologized for in open chat, and yet this thread appeared shortly thereafter.
Lets not make river out to be an innocent, injured party. He is a (presumably) young player who needs to learn on MR and in r/l that you do have to be nice to other people if you expect them to be nice to you. There will be MANY people in all walks of your life that you don't like that you HAVE to learn to get along with in order to be successful/happy in your life overall.
I am a mom and an Auntie and my shoulder gets cried on a lot. This is not the first time I've pointed out that even though every person is responsible for their own actions/reactions, we are also responsible for our own and its not ok to provoke or instigate and then claim pure innocence.
I am NOT the LAW, but I AM a MOM
