Player Vs. Player (Section 1)

Proximity of Spawn (1.1): Spawn camping is the act of remaining within the proximity of Spawn and blocking or standing guard in an area directly outside of Spawn and killing anyone that comes near. As of April 30th, this action is not a rule infraction.
Over-World and the Nether (1.2): Player versus player combat is allowed, provided both players have PvP enabled. If a player is lured in to enabling PvP by another player (perhaps lying as to what the command does, or telling him to "trust" him), it is that own player's fault for listening to him. PvP in Realms follows the same protocol: both player must have PvP enabled.

In the Nether, PvP is enabled at all times, so expect PvP combat when you enter.
Stalking (1.3): As of July 22nd, the repeated killing and / or following of a player in any accessible premises is allowed, as PvP combat can be turned off by choice, and as such, there is no need to protect those who wish to keep it enabled.
Indirect or Unauthorized PvP (1.4): It is quite possible to cause the death of a player without physically attacking them. Pushing players so that they end up in harms way at spawn (into a lava pit, manhole to bedrock, hungry spider, etc) is a rule infraction. Additionally, setting fire underneath a player with PvP disabled is a bannable offense.
Threatening Indirect PvP (1.5): In any realms that aren't spawn realms*, it is acceptable to force a player out of one's realm via threatening indirect PvP (lava bucket, flint and steel, etc.). However, the indirect PvP is only allowed provided the player gave 3 verbal warnings (at least one through private messaging with the warned player), and waited 30 seconds before carrying out the killing.

In the spawn realms, even with adequate warning given, players may not partake in any form of indirect PvP with another player.

*Any realm that costs 50,000 Realm Credits when purchased from nature.

Stealing (Section 2)

Chests (2.1): Stealing items from chests is always a rule infraction. To help catch and bring justice to looters, it is recommended to place a block over your chests so we can determine who stole from you, or at the very least griefed your fancy chest protector.

Also: do not replace the block should there have been one above your chests. We need to determine the last person who tampered with that block, and without your intervention, that would tell us who the looter is.
Dropped Items (2.2): Should a player meet his death and another player loots his items, this is not a rule infraction. Should a player accidentally drop items and another player loots those, this is also not a rule infraction.
Interruption of Trade (2.3): Should a player interrupt two other players trading by stealing the items, this is in fact a rule infraction. The reason the response differs here than in (2.2) is because this is classified as true stealing.

Trading (Section 3)

Realm Credits - Physical Item Trade (3.1): Trading Realm Credits for physical in-game items or materials is a protected action. Intentionally with-holding one's end of the agreed upon terms of the trade will likely result in a ban. However, an incredible amount of evidence is required to ban a player for this. Video recording is usually the only acceptable proof of a violation of (3.2). If for some reason you decide to conduct a very large trade with a player you are unfamiliar with, be sure to video record the entire process. Better safe then sorry.
Physical Item - Physical item Trade (3.2): This follows the exact same protocol as (3.2).
Property Trading (3.3): The selling of property to another player is a protected action. It is the player's own responsibility to ensure they are selling the realm for the price they intend to. However, any extra item trade, services, etc. that are also agreed upon in the trade are required to be followed through. It is a very highly recommended idea to develop a contract or written agreement regarding these extra trade proceedings, in order to ensure you have far enough proof should the terms ever be violated. Without a written agreement, it may prove very difficult to convict a player for violating (3.4).
Player-Owned Business / Infrastructure (3.4): Player-Owned Business and Infrastructure follow a unique protocol. There are a few definitions of specific business entities:
  • Bank - A business entity on MineRealm that ensures the safekeeping of items placed by the customer in a storage vessel. These items can then be accessed by the customer whenever possible.
Open Market - A business entity on MineRealm that encourages players themselves to conduct their own business transactions on this property, often for a small fee to the business itself. These are also known as Flea Markets or Trading Centers.
Shop / Store / Supercenter - A business entity on MineRealm that offers tangible in-game items or materials in exchange for Realm Credits or other items from the customer, or vice versa.
Agency - A business entity on MineRealm that offers services, such as manual labor, building design, security, etc., in exchange for Realm Credits or items from the customer.
Loan Shark - A business entity on MineRealm that offers the loaning of Realm Credits or materials in exchange for the same loaned materials back at a later date, often at an increased interest rate. These business often do not have a physical location.
Public Service Place / Recreational Services - A business entity on MineRealm that offers recreational activies, such as boat racing, a hedge maze, etc., or a business entity that offers a place for loitering or relaxation, such as a town square.
Property Rental Agency - A business entity on MineRealm that offers protected land for a customer to edit and develop as he pleases in exchange often for a weekly rent, down payment, etc. Extra restrictions on build rights may be set by the agency itself.
Furthermore, there are specific rules that follow these business models:
  • Banks are required by law to allow access of one player's vault by that player at any time the banker may be available. Restricting access for more than 4 days will result in the returning of those items to the player immediately, or the banker may see a ban. Agreed upon payments of the customer to the banker are also required to be fulfilled. Failure to follow up on a payment for 7 days will result in the banker's right to procure all items deposited by the customer. If the customer is going on vacation or is otherwise unavailable to pay the payment required, it is recommended that they either withdraw all items, or pay in advance if the bank allows it.

Open Markets do not follow any specific rules.

Shops follow the same protocol as (3.2). Treat it as such.

Agencies follow a very strange guideline in that it is strongly recommended, almost required that the Agency develop a written agreement to follow. Otherwise, enforcement of policies agreed upon by the Agency and the customer is difficult.

Loan Sharks follow the same sort of ruling as Agencies. While it is entirely possible to follow the process of a loan without a written agreement, it is recommended to create one in order to secure both sides of the agreement.

Public Service Places do not follow any specific guidelines other than that any entrance fees, usage fees, other rules put in place the owners, etc., be followed by the users.

Property Rental Agencies follow the same policy as Agencies. Use written agreements.
In-Game Chat (Section 4)

Swearing & Inappropriateness (4.1): Swearing in-game will usually result in a warning from moderators, further incidents likely resulting in a temporary or permanent ban based on the severity of it. Swearing excessively, and/or using vulgarities will very quickly result in a ban. We do not tolerate foul language on this server, even if it isn't directed at players. The reason for this is that we appreciate a wide range of ages and wish to create a mature environment for them.
Spamming (4.2): Spamming, by this definition, does not mean: Sending a ton of messages. It means: sending a ton of incoherent or stupid messages. This will get you banned in an instant.
Advertising (4.3): Advertising of another Minecraft server is a bannable offense.
Asking Questions (4.4): Should a player ask for help, perhaps a chat command he cannot find, or for what time of day it is, they will obviously receive a polite answer. What is obnoxious is players asking in-game for some sort of mod or plugin, continually asking for the attention of a mod or admin, etc. This can be bannable after you are told to quiet.

Forum Behavior (Section 5)

Swearing & Inappropriateness (5.1): Swearing on the forums will usually result in a warning from moderators, further incidents likely resulting in a temporary or permanent ban based on the severity of it. Swearing excessively, and/or using vulgarities will very quickly result in a ban. We do not tolerate foul language on this server, even if it isn't directed at players. The reason for this is that we appreciate a wide range of ages and wish to create a mature environment for them.
Spamming (5.2): Spamming on the forums can refer to either what is mentioned in (4.3) OR simply sending far too many messages before receiving a reply. Stay patient, players will reply. Our forums don't flow like the King's River, there is no need to bump threads.
Ideas & Suggestions (5.3): There are two threads dedicated to this: http://minerealm.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=798 and http://minerealm.com/community/viewtopi ... =10&t=1073
Ban Complaints & Appeals (5.4): There is a thread for this: http://minerealm.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=678
Other Topics (5.5): On other topics, we try to steer clear from over-moderating (free speech and all). Obviously, topics that are composed of pure idiocy will be locked or deleted. Continuing to post such obviously inappropriate / foolish threads can lead to a forum ban.
Advertising (5.6): Advertising of another Minecraft server is a bannable offense.

In-Game Behavior (Section 6)

Griefing (6.1): Griefing can be identified as: Destroying blocks that do not belong to that player, removing / adding torches that do not belong to that player, destroying crops, or placing blocks on property that isn't theirs. This is a bannable offense.
Hacking (6.2): Hacking of any kind will result in a ban. Examples of hacks: any modification that alters movement speed, the ability to ignore in-game physics, alterations to block-breaking speed, the ability to spawn items, dupe items, be invisible, and the useage of X-Ray hacks.
Trespassing (6.3): Trespassing would refer to walking on someone else's property once they have asked you to leave, or when they have placed a sign telling you to stay away. You may be asked to leave the property by a Moderator or Admin. Refusal to do so can lead to a kick, ban, or teleport back to spawn.
Vulgar Signs (6.4): Placing a sign that displays inappropriate language or figures is a bannable offense.
Offensive Skins (6.5): There are many skins that may be considered offensive. You will be warned and asked to change your skin should yours violate our guidelines. Failure to do so will lead to a kick and possibly a ban. Examples of skins that are rule infractions: Total nudity, reference to a discriminant or racist group (Nazis, K.K.K., etc.), as well as certain other skins. See (7.7) if you have questions regarding a skin you wish to wear.
Texture Packs (6.6): Standard texture packs (ones that alter the art files of models and/or blocks to anything besides transparent) are allowed. Should a player have a texture pack that causes any in-game art file that would otherwise be visible be invisible (aka: transparent texture packs), it is a bannable offense.
Mods (6.7): Modifications to the in-game experience that are not classified as hacks in (6.2) are most often allowed. Examples of acceptable mods: Texture Packs that do not breach (6.6), minimaps, compasses, and tool-tips.
Land Acquisition (6.8): In the event that player seizes construction rights to a Realm through a purchase from the natural world*, any artificial structures, as well as any belongings, that are owned by a player (or players) other than he who is purchasing the realm, that purchasing player is required to allot the owner(s) of said structures and belongings 14 real-life days to provide for their own exodus. This includes allowing them full access to the deconstruction of their own physical structures, as well as the gathering of any items he prior to the realm purchase owned in that realm. The disruption of the property and belongings during this 14 day period is considering griefing/stealing, and the purchaser of the realm will be banned for committing such actions.

However, should the occasion arise where one player purchases a realm that contains another player's constructs, and that realm is situated a considerable distance from other civilization, it will be considered serious harassment for that player to purchase this realm. See (7.7) to learn how to prevent being charged with harassment.

In general, we will not intervene on purchases that seize control of a previously inhabited property, but in cases we deem exceptions (perhaps harassment has been ongoing for weeks?), we reserve the right to step in and force you to surrender the realm. Afraid that you cannot read our minds? (7.7).

*Not purchasing the land from a previous owner; was purchasing from the Server un-claimed land for 10,000 Realm Credits.

Breaking In (6.9): Breaking blocks in order to reach a chest is itself classified as griefing and possibly as stealing, and so very easily bannable.

On a separate note, breaking in to someone's property via destruction of a wall or barrier, is also classified as griefing.

Ban Special Conditions (Section 7)

Reasonable Cause (7.1): There are certain instances where there may be little to no proof to support a ban case, but Reasonable Cause is provided. An example would be that a player left a sign saying "LOL NICE HOUSE BRO" next to a griefed house. While this evidence can in 3.0 be supported by checking how the blocks were destroyed, this example is just to show how Reasonable Cause may be applied.
Guilt By Association (7.2): This special condition acknowledges that if players are at the scene of an incident that resulted in a ban, they are presumed to be suspects. In an example that occurred awhile back: a large duping incident results in mass amounts of diamonds floating about. We check the inventory of a player who isn't talking, but has 20 stacks of diamond blocks on him. This an example of Guilt by Association, as it is highly unlikely that any player would have 20 stacks of diamond blocks. On a more human level, it is also highly unlikely that a player would have 20 stacks of diamond blocks who we do not personally recognize.
Guilt By Majority Verdict (7.3): This is a very iffy special condition. Guilt By Majority Verdict operates on the rule that "If enough players say it, it is probably true." This applies exclusively to events where a large number of players state that another player is griefing spawn, spamming chat, etc. What solidifies this case is when a credible member of MineRealm joins in on the verdict. This may in a few circumstances suffice as evidence to ban a player. It is important to recognize that Guilt By Majority Verdict does not mean "If enough players say it, it is time to drop a ban."
Banning for Idiocy / Intellectual Incompetence (7.4): This special condition highlights instances when players talk in a way that demonstrates a severe lack of logic, politeness, failure to yield to moderator/admin warnings, or a severe case of denial. Examples of this include players ignoring arguments presented to them by moderators (such as when investigating a ban case), players denying an event from every occurring, repeatedly asking for administrators to spawn them items, name-calling or chat that doesn't otherwise provide a healthy advance to conversation, etc. Carrying out this intellectual incompetence can result in a temporary or permanent ban in extreme cases.
Administrator Discretion (7.5): Players may be banned or unbanned at the discretion of an Admin, whether rules outlined in this thread have been breached or not.

Also: verbal acknowledgement from a Moderator or Admin serves as viable evidence in any instance.
Circumvention of Rules (7.6): This case applies in special instances where someone attempts to argue or manipulate the phrasing of the rules in a way that is not what the Staff deems to be its intended meaning. Questions about their intended meaning? See (7.7).
Ask Before You Act (7.7): This is more-so a very strong suggestion rather than an actual rule. It applies when a player is choosing to purchase a Realm that has another player's structures within its bounds, when a player is considering installing and using a certain in-game modification, and also in some other instances. This guideline suggests that this is your opportunity to be protected from a ban by asking an Admin whether or not we would tolerate something.

Additionally, you have to be absolutely clear with your question and what you intend to carry out. Should an Admin misunderstand what you are asking for - say you are ambiguously hinting at using some sort of invincibility mod -, you are liable for that misunderstanding.

Also: if we do not respond to your question, do not carry out what you planned on doing. Our silence doesn't equal confirmation.
Obliviousness to the Rules (7.8): A simple utterance: Being oblivious to an existing rule does not exclude you from its full enforcement.
False Informing of Rules (7.9) Should a player lie as to what the rules are when explaining them to another player (ex: he says griefing is allowed) and that player then carries out that action, it is a bannable offense on the false-informer's part.

Harassment (Section 8)

Harassment (8.1): Harassment can be identified as performing an action with the intention of causing harm to another player, or the repeated verbal assault of another player, be it in game or on the forums. This is different from trolling in that it is personal and often malicious. Harassment is, as expected, a bannable offense.

Once the harassment victim asks the harasser to stop, he is required to stop. Continuing to harass will result in a ban.
Trolling (8.2): Trolling can be identified as speaking in a way that attempts to lure out a response, usually of hostility or disgust. Trolling can be performed simply by calling other players dumb, placing signs that laugh at players, etc. Alternatively, trolling can imply joking in a way that attempts to lure out a response of surprise, such as when one player shouts "OMG, SANDBEAST!" Sand Beasts are not active on the server, and so this would be trolling.

Trolling is usually not bannable, as it takes a less serious tone, or one that isn't personal. Even if it is directed at one player, trolling is mostly composed of harmless statements that are attempting to agitate the player.

This will be updated as changes, corrections, and additions are made.

Panths, if this gets approved I would totally vote that you get Admin status :D . But really, this is cool. I hope Intelli approves this. It is easy to read and even feels "legal-y". Bans can be referenced by section to this, and save a lot of mods a lot of typing. And really, the mods and admins do enough work maintaining order and civility on this server, they dont need to type huge explanations for why people have been banned.

Edit: For wilderness killing is repeated stalking and murder banworthy? Like the same person waits outside your realm and even if you have nothing they kill you (example: 50 times). This could be considered harassment...
Swearing at mods/admins has always(whenever it happens and I see it) resulted in an instant ban. Also, specify what counts as a "curse" or stupid people will post "he saied damn" on bans.

questions:
2.1: what if that chest is in the wilderness?
4.1: what if they swear very often and have not gotten a warning?

I also think you should get admin status. You're on more than the current ones.

Oh panthers, also talk about the vulgar sign issue, the offensive skin issue, and the transparent texture pack issue.

Yeah, I wasn't even thinking about the transparent texture pack. Though, how can you get caught since no one else can see your texture pack but you? I also haven't heard of the offensive skin issue because it hasn't ever come up but it is a great idea to put in.

It's come up ingame a few times people wearing skins like nazi outfits or skins where they are completely naked showing body parts but yeah it's never been talked about on the forums really.

Skin issue comes up weekly, packs are obvious enough. If a mod sees you tunneling directly to a hidden chest, or some diamond under lava, I think that's reasonable suspicion and action should be taken.

I'm gonna have to agree, panthers ought to have admin status. He's highly active, is experienced enough and gets things done. I can definitely see this rulebook finally clearing out the camping around spawn, as well as the general harassment. (I've caught people intentionally trampling my crops before and such things, not going to out them yet unless they keep doing it after these rules are approved)
