The official server rules, as established are the following. These are what we will always rely on.

1. Do not disturb other people's stuff
2. No Griefing
3. No Looting
4. No Exploiting
5. No Glitching
6. No Cheating
7. No Racism
8. No Begging
9. No Client mods
10. No Flying
11. No Speed hacks
12. No Xray Hacks
13. Respect all players

However, some players have trouble understanding what is, and what is not covered by these rules, so I'm going to also include some common questions about the rules that are asked. Note that this list is not comprehensive. If you try to argue that something is not against the rules because you don't see it in the examples, I will laugh in your face, and point at the rules set out at the top of this thread. I will then ban you. If you want clarification on the legality of something, post in this thread, and a mod or admin will provide the answer. If you are doing something that you think might be of dubious legality, assume that it probably is, and don't do it unless we approve it in this thread.

Common Questions About the Rules

Q. What mods are allowed?
A. We do not allow any mod that gives you an advantage over other players. Xray mods, speed/flying mods, minimaps, and anything else like that is not allowed. Additionally, Xray texture packs are not allowed. Mods like Optifine and improved chat are allowed.

Q. Can I take stuff from chests in public areas?
A. No, that is considered stealing, and is not allowed.

Q. Can I purchase the plot that someone is building in currently?
A. You are only able to do this if you have a legitimate reason to purchase that plot. If your goal is to harass another player, then it is a bannable offense to do this. Additionally, if you purchase a realm out from a player, you are required to save their stuff and give it to them. If you take the contents of their chests, or if you loot blocks they were building with, it will be considered griefing and theft, and we will ban you.

Q. Can I steal stuff from chests in the nether?
A. If someone stores their stuff in the nether, it is at risk of being stolen from. You do not receive protection from looting in the nether.

Q. Can I portal camp?
A. Yes. There are not many PVP rules in the Nether. You are not allowed to relog to gain an advantage in PVP. If you are being pursued, and log off, you should stay logged off for a while so as to not take advantage of the temporary invulnerability granted by logging in.

- In addition to pvp logging, logging to wait for backup to get an advantage is also considered as pvp logging and will be counted as such.

Luring is bannable. If you're unclear about what that is, well for example it would include someone saying "Come to the Nether free diamonds!" and then a cluster of people pile through the portals, with people on the other side, simply just waiting to kill anyone who comes through. If you want to give out diamonds, do so at spawn or trade.

We are also now enforcing a 15 block radius around the spawn portal. Within this 15 block radius you may not build anything for the purpose of PVP (if you wish to alter the area contact staff). This radius does not include "Traps."

"Traps" are allowed to be made. They cannot be built near spawn or off a main path unless marked.

"Traps" are allowed in the nether as long as they aren't within 50 blocks of the spawn portal. The same goes for the End except the spawn point instead of the portal. As for the Wilderness it's free game.

Nether rules -

Q. Can I destroy someone's building in the nether?
A. You are not allowed to grief buildings purely for the sake of destroying them. However, special consideration needs to be taken due to the PvP in the nether. If you use a building/fort to take shelter during combat, people are allowed to break walls/doors to get to you. One of the important differences between combat in Minecraft and any other game is the ability to build/destroy stuff on the fly, and we do not want to squelch this. Note that this only applies in the nether. If you are PvPing overworld and start destroying buildings, you will get banned.

Q. Is pvp looting a bannable offence?
A. Pvp looting which is known as looting other players kills, is not a bannable offence. If you are killed or kill someone then any items dropped are free for anyone to pickup. This doesn't mean you can steal/interrupt trades however.

Q: If both parties have a "battle" can it be rolled back by staff?
A: No, if you both agree to any griefing during a "battle" you must fix it by hand again.

Q: What if griefing isn't agree upon?
A: If neither parties agree to the griefing then treat is as any other normal griefing.

Q: What if they griefing into someone's base to loot?
A: The griefing is allowed with or without consent as long as its repaired afterwards.

Q: If a player is throwing snow balls or hitting me with a fishing rod and I ask them to stop and they refuse what can I do?
A: Contact a staff member, they will be warned if they continue they can/will be banned for harassment.

Q: What do I do if I find a pig spawner?
A: Pig spawners are not a nature part of minecraft/minerealm(except creative mode), if you find a pig spawner please report it to staff. If you are found using/exploiting it, it will result in a ban.

Note: Not all griefing in the nether/end is griefing see the blocks able to be taken in the follow thread below

See the rule update from 8/9/12 (Looting, Wilderness & Nether, Alt Accounts): http://minerealm.com/c/v/9720

If you have questions about the rules, or need clarification about something, post in this thread, and a Staff member will try to reply to you with the answer.

Does portal camping include; chasing someone to a portal and killing them whilst they attempt to escape in the portal?
This did happen to me.

If they are inside the portal area, you are not allowed to kill them.

EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION: This has been changed. Anything stated in the top post is the final word if it conflicts with statements mentioned in clarifications.

Could you, or another member of the staff, provide more specific guidelines for various uses of the channel system to get an advantage in the Nether? Specifically:

1) Logging out and quickly relogging to the same channel with the goal of using the temporary invincibility to start a fight, or to gain an advantage in a fight that started before the logout,

2) Logging out and quickly relogging to the same channel with the goal of running away from an ongoing fight,

3) Logging out and quickly relogging to a different channel with the goal of running away from an ongoing fight,

4) Logging out and quickly relogging to a different channel, moving a short distance, then relogging onto the original channel to resume the fight while taking advantage of a more strategic position (i.e. where you moved to while on the different channel) as well as the temporary invincibility.

While I do not believe this violates the spirit of the rule, it would be a violation of the wording of the rule.

No, spirit as well. The portals have a zone around them of absolutely no pvp for any reason. It doesn't care why you are there, there is no pvp.

Make an agreement between two player to duel near a portal? Both get banned.

Someone attacks you near a portal and you fight back? Both banned.

This rule-set is awesome because it doesn't allow any exceptions or excuses and it does not care about your reasons. Its just a straight up 'did you or didn't you' to decide bannings. Now no one can claim ignorance or seek any kind of wiggle room.

Cerevox, I believe I may have been misunderstood. The spirit (or origin) of the rule is to prevent people from getting jumped before they have a chance to exit the portal.

It is entirely neccessary to enforce it against all possible abuses or the rule has no meaning. So yes, I believe that now that the rule is in place it must be enforced without exception. Otherwise it will not be able to serve its original purpose.

Option A) A screenshot gets posted of player A being killed by Player B near the portal. Player A says he just stepped through the portal. Player B says he chased Player A to the portal. This causes massive arguments/flaming about who is telling the truth, and the mods/admins have to sort through the bickering.

Option B) A screenshot gets posted of player A being killed by player B near the portal. Player B is banned. Problem solved.

You can see why we aren't going to make that distinction, and choose option B.
