Someone was once saying that it wasn't possible for someone to live 4000 squares away from spawn... Unfortunately the mathematician in me wanted to find out if that was true or not...

The Pythagorean theorem states that 3000^2 + 3000^2 = 8283^2. Divide the diagonal 8283/2, and that gives a number of 4242.5. Technically you could live about 242 squares away from the corner, and live along the perimeter of that circle that the diameter forms from spawn, or farther, and you'd still be at least 4000 squares away from spawn. *Shrugs* I'm sorry if this rambling bothered people, but I had to share the equations... XD

I'm not sure how you came relatively close to the length of the hypotenuse (rounding error) when your math is all wrong.

So you're saying that you can go 3000 in any direction, but the farthest you can go is 2121 blocks. This is probably the stupidest thing you said today.

So you're saying that you can go 3000 in any direction, but the farthest you can go is 2121 blocks. This is probably the stupidest thing you said today.

i have never said that you can go 3000 blocks in any direction. if you fully read my post, you would understand that 3000 is the FULL length of one side, not the distance from spawn to an edge. again, 4242 is the FULL length of the hypotenuse. here is a picture to help you with your obvious problems:

if you are standing in the very middle of the map, it is possible to go 1500 blocks(which as i can tell you do not know, is half of 3000) south, east, north, or west before you hit the edge. if you are standing in the middle, you can go 2121 blocks northeast, southeast, southwest, or northwest.

The map is 6k by 6k. Terrance messed up his post by putting 3000^2 instead of 6000^2. I can draw pictures, too. the difference is mine are more accurate.

i see. I was trusting on terrance's statement of 3000^2, and believed the map was 3k x 3k, but you are correct. disregard my last post.

new equations:

6000x6000=36000000

36000000x2=72000000

the square root of 72000000=about 8484, therefore it is possible to live 4242 blocks away from spawn. thank you for correcting me.

ps: is spawn actually in the exact middle of the map? or off to the side a couple blocks?

I know math... XD don't doubt the work I put into rediscovering a^2+b^2=c^2... XDD I just put down what I came up with, and showed my work. Yah gotta keep in mind that you don't technically calculate in the square of a number from the formula unless you are trying to actually find the variable, in this case, C. The numbers were already plugged into the formula when I found the answer, 8283, so the only thing you all really had to do, was divide it in half, and round up or down if necessary. Yeah, I totally forgot that A and B were actually 6000 instead of 3000, and I thank you for it...

Either way, the end number 8283 was found and then I mis-wrote my report...

6000^2+6000^2=8283^2

I guess it's easy to forget that the map is actually 6000 blocks wide, huh...?
