Subway Manager
So it is appearent that we will be having a public land wipe, yet the subway manager has quit minerealm. I was wondering who will be taking charge of the subway. I have heard it was passed on to AJ but Im not sure if this is true. Either way I think we should reelect someone who likes to dig, is good at making computer images, and is will be good at making the subway a user friendly and simple system.

Improvements?
I am not sure how many people used the old subway, but for me personally it was difficult complicated and not worth my time. The subway itself is not the easiest to find at spawn so I also think it should be made easier to find. Also I think there needs to be a very simplistic design and by this I mean long tunnels going in four different directions on the map. On these four tunnels there should be branches of easy to read signs. The current one has four main branches and lots of random stops and unlabeled random tunnels.

Skyrail or Subway?
The Skyrail is the same thing as a subway accept it is above ground and the benefits to it is that it's easier to put up, faster to make, looks cool, allows for horse travel, gives the rider a better sense of direction, and allows the rider to see builds. However there may be much more grief involved. Or the traditional subway which is underground.

Horses?
This idea is developmental and I just wanted to throw this out there as I think it would be really cool. Horses are one of the fastest ways of transportation as well as a very fun way of transportation. With name tags I think it would be easy to code something to make horses with the same name as the player, only interactive with the player with its name. Now if that player logs off there will no longer be a name to match that horse so it would be unprotected again. Basically a horse with the same name as the player will be protected, however the player must be online for that horse to be protected.

Note: This is not a suggestion just a idea to put out there. Also I would like to know which is preferred Skyrail or subway. Please read all this carefully and please leave your thoughts on this.

I dunno. The Subway is less intrusive, and has easier access to those cool underground builds you never see, but the Skyrail has a better view and is easier to keep track of. I personally think that neither will ever become particularly useful unless the whole server makes a project of it (think 30 or more players going around, making subway tunnels/skyrail tracks and exits/entrances that are easily visible and clearly marked from both the inside and the outside). It isn't really worth it unless it's super-convenient, which it won't be unless all those people spend all their time and money improving it.

I'm going to go with the subway, as it would be just as useful as--and less intrusive than--the skyrail if we put a lot of work into them, and it isn't really worth using if we don't.

I think the subway is the way to go, skyrail looks cool and gives a better view but is also in full view for griefers.
Personally I use the nether as it is much faster, in fact i would guess around 75% of the players use nether over subway if they need to get somewhere.
Even better would be a subway in the nether itself mirroring the overworld one.

Next time can we have a subway that goes to its supposed destination instead of players hijacking it all over the place for their personal subway routes.
I have nothing against players subways, but when you have to get off and transfer tracks because if it......

Can I vote 'none of the above' or have an anti-transport area near my home? I want to cut down on the griefers there as I've been hit more than three times over the past months, to both my railway AND my guild members' buildings.

Every time I try to ride the subway, I end up walking more than riding because of the grief.
The fact that it's roughly 8x faster is pretty redeeming though.

A skyrail would run into too many protected realms to organize/work perfectly.

If I have the time*, I may just grab control of the subway. I have off and on run it for as time allows, and did the bulk of the mapwork for it. I have also been trying to keep on top of subway griefing for the past 5-6 months.

Honestly, the wipe is probably a good thing. What I may end up doing is having some people go through and strip out all of the public rails, and then redo the subway. I'll probably put a lot more strict standards on what you do to get an actual stop in place, so that way it has a lot less random 1 person realms that it detours to.

On subway vs skyrail: Subways are easy to pass through peoples realms without disturbing them. I might be willing to allow some mixed rail where it transitions to skyrail for a while, but I think I would prioritize efficiency over skyrails.

Netherrails are also difficult, because whenever ghasts blow them up, you have to manually repair the stuff. It might be worthwhile to make a netherrail and overlaying a map over the main subway map, though that will take quite a bit of work, and probably not be a high priority.

I own a rather long stretch of subway some distance south of spawn, and I believe all the subway-containing realms between my area and spawn station are owned by other players. I suspect that at least the first few stops along the north, east, and west rails are also private (just because of the huge popularity of realms near spawn), so we'll at least have a respectable chunk of the subway to use right after the wipe.

Being a player that constantly uses the subway system, I have wanted to bring order to the madness for a very long time. I'd even voluteer for the job if you are that desperate.

But while I have plenty of experience with underground building, I feel that both skyway and subway should be considered together. As others have said, a skyway is faster and easier to build. It also allows you to see many of the interesting realms that we treasure. But since they are more intrusive on the landscape, I'd suggest they be used as express-ways, Traveling as directly as possible to the four edges of the map. This impacts as few realms as possible, but also encourages people to spread out and build near these skyways, encouraging exploration that other methods (the extra spawn points) failed at. With the main arteries set up, players could then create sub- or sky- ways to suit their needs.

I've also experimented with several simple redstone designs that would make it easier to transport mobs on the railways, allowing you to stop them and direct them to the correct destination without modifying the rails. I'd love to see something like this incorporated into the new system.

But ya as bull said the Skyrail would probably get extra grief and be in the way. However I like Quips idea with incorporating both. However I still wanted to see people opinions. The railroad is such a good concept and Eah has made me a cake dispenser that allows you to only get 1 cake per 256secs so adding a minecart dispenser wouldn't be to hard with all the iron farms. The point is minerealm should utilize subways more, however the current subway is a train wreck, grief, personal stops everywhere, and many other things. However I think with the right person behind the operations it may work better. Kerovon if you did the planning Im sure most of the community would help mine it out as it's a great way for credits! I kinda want to find the subway manager app page, I think there is one and it would be cool to have elections.
