Of course, if you're really bad at spleef, you'll really only have to pay 500

However depending on the number of players winning even 1st would lose money.. unlikely but possible. If you were to make it all the way but get fourth that is a ton of credits down the drain

The overall number of matches all depends on how many are playing. If 16, for example, I was thinking of having 11 matches. If you don't win a medal, you'll play 2 or 3 matches until you're eliminated. If you win iron, you play 4. If you win gold or diamond you play 5. So if there are 16 competitors, each player can expect to pay at least 1000 credits and up to 2500 credits. But again, it's all up to how many are playing.

I have indeed set it up so the odds are in your favor. For example, if there are 16 competitors, each competitor having an equal chance of winning the tournament, and the tournament scenario happens 16 times, you will win diamond once, gold once, and iron once. Having won 100k, yet having only spent 22k to play the matches.

Abyssus has a spleef arena. Its specifically death spleef, but has a system to release all the combatants from holding cells into the arena at the same time. Its currently set up as a PVP arena, but its easily enough convertable.
