Paint is definitely NOT the way to go. I'd suggest using GIMP, since it is free and it is fairly good. Paint is very low quality and is only to be used by sub-3rd grade students if they are bored.

Hmm, the palm tree on a flat island 1/3 in on the left. Island centre. Water level at the botton, flat darker blue, sky lighter blue, Sun behind Island either central or 1/3 in from the right?

Possible suggestion, but play around with different settups and explore a range of designs.
