If this were not enabled example:
Types: /m VVolfie Hi
<Message> eah2119 >> VVolfie: Hi
<Message> VVolfie >> eah2119: NYAR!
Types: /m Intelli Hello
<Message> eah2119 >> Intelli: Hello
Types: /r afk again?
<Message> eah2119 >> VVolfie: afk again? <--- Sent to player of last message RECIEVED
If this were enabled example:
Types: /m VVolfie Hi
<Message> eah2119 >> VVolfie: Hi
<Message> VVolfie >> eah2119: NYAR!
Types: /m Intelli Hello
<Message> eah2119 >> Intelli: Hello
Types: /r afk again?
<Message> eah2119 >> Intelli: afk again? <--- Sent to player of last message SENT
Basically, it would keep the reply fails from occurring. It would especially help with communicating with a newb via message when the newb doesn't know how to reply back. Typing out long names is a hassle in commands, especially with the tab auto-complete not working in commands.
